Participated in the Paris Collections for 22 years from 1978. Held shows in New York (the Metropolitan Museum of Art), Beijing, Vietnam, Poland, Cuba, Spain, and elsewhere.
She is deeply committed to international cultural exchange. Her work spans costumes for the operas “The Magic Flute” and “Madama Butterfly,” the Broadway musical “Pacific Overtures” (a Tony Award nominee), and stage costumes for DRUM TAO, as well as sports uniforms and designs for fireworks and interiors; she also engages in reconstruction-support activities for disaster-stricken regions of Japan. Senior Advisor to the Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition; Person of Cultural Merit.
Received the Chevalier of the Legion of Honour of the French Republic (2021), the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon (2022), and the Order of Culture (2025).

Images of the future can be found within the boundless reach of the universe.
The sun, the moon, the earth, and the planets. The “sphere” and the “circle” are creations of the divine — perfect forms with neither up nor down, left nor right.
The concept of opposites (polarity, harmony, equilibrium) is likewise an essential source of creation. Combinations of the “circle” and the “square,” red and black, curve and line, metaphysical value and philosophical symbol give rise to a singular style.
The divine power of the “circle” stands opposite the human power of the “square,” and the contrast of red and black signifies light and shadow.
Design removes the walls between different fields and makes fusion possible, bringing harmony to art and technology, software and hardware, East and West, function and beauty, logic and sensibility — and creating new value.
While studying in the Design Department of Bunka Fashion College, she won the Soen Award — known as the gateway for emerging designers — at nineteen, its youngest recipient ever.

Designed the uniforms for the Pepsi-Cola Pavilion, the Takara Beautilion, and the Living Industry Pavilion at Expo ’70 Osaka.

Opened “Boutique Junko” in Minami-Aoyama. She named Gaien-Higashi-dori, the avenue the boutique faced, “Killer-dori (Killer Street).”
1971
Debuted at the Paris Collections. Theme: “Primitive Oriental” @ Théâtre Le Palace, Paris.

Designed the uniforms for the Government Pavilion at Expo ’85 Tsukuba (Theme Pavilion, History Pavilion, Tsukuba Expo Center, and Children’s Plaza).
