Ceremony Commemorating the 60th Anniversary of the Kyoto–Paris Friendship Pact

JUNKO KOSHINO FASHION SHOW “Théâtre Noh et Mode” Ceremony Commemorating the 60th Anniversary of the Kyoto–Paris Friendship Pact — Célébration du 60e anniversaire des relations entre Paris et Kyoto On Tuesday, June 19, 2018, as the cities of Kyoto and Paris marked the 60th anniversary of their friendship pact, a Kyoto delegation visited Paris and the two cities held a commemorative ceremony. To convey the culture of Kyoto and of Japan to the people of Paris, the ceremony featured a fashion show produced by JUNKO KOSHINO that combined the traditional art of “Noh” with MODE. Under the theme “Théâtre Noh et Mode,” it became a new form of stage art fusing kimono dresses expressing JUNKO KOSHINO’s beauty of subtraction with Noh theatre directed by Michiharu Wakebayashi (a Noh actor of the Kanze school) clad in “Noh” costumes designed by Koshino. In the historic Hôtel de Ville, the models’ graceful movements, in harmony with the sound of the hayashi accompaniment, were presented as a distilled expression of Japanese culture.
